BSU # 5 In the Nation

BSU has done it #5 in the nation.

Coach Pete I think sums up what this means best in USA Today:
Boise State coach Chris Petersen appreciates the coaches lifting the 4-0 Broncos to No. 5 in this week's USA TODAY poll but politely declines to put much stock in the highest ranking in school history. Talking Sunday after returning home from Saturday's 49-14 win at Bowling Green, Petersen said:

"It doesn't matter what people are saying about us, good or bad, because we know we have a lot of work left to do to become a better team. It's going to be easy for us to stay focused because we are only one month into a very long season.

The Broncos' resume became a bit brighter after Oregon dismantled then-No. 6 California on Saturday. Boise State beat the Ducks 19-8 to open the season, its lone game this year against a school from one of the six major conferences. Petersen wasn't surprised by Oregon's win.

"We know their offensive firepower," Petersen said. "They're a team that can score points. But that game is a perfect example of why we don't get too excited. Cal came in riding high but one loss and that's gone."

Boise State was ranked No. 2 this week in Jeff Sagarin's BCS ratings. But the Broncos' remaining schedule is without another signature opponent: Tulsa, Hawaii and Louisiana Tech look like the stiffest challenges and all three are road games.

"No matter what people on the outside see, we know what's coming our way and that is a lot of tough, tough games on the road," Petersen said. "So far our guys have been real good about staying focused on what's at hand and not paying any attention to the outside noise."

Boise plays UC Davis this weekend and has an off-week before traveling to Tulsa on Oct. 14.

"We have a lot more travel, a lot more twists and turns, a lot more challenges," Petersen said. "Where you are in the polls now is meaningless and I think our guys have stayed fairly grounded on that. There is a lot of football left for this team."

As a BSU Alumni and fan I hope BSU wins the WAC and plays in one of the big BCS Bowl games but we still have a bunch of games to play and I want BSU to keep playing the way they have and keep proving to everybody that they deserve to be in the big dance and I want them to win, win, win.

GO BIG BLUE!!!
